Dead Confederate "Who Invited The Old Guys?" Tour '08

We began our tour last night in Carrboro, NC and it was a fantastic start. We're really excited to be touring with Manchester Orchestra, Kevin Devine and All Get Out. As evidenced below in the picture, I found a secret hiding spot to watch the bands perform. I think the common denominators in this equation are high intensity and lots of emotion in the music. We also found everyone to be EXTREMELY easy to get along with (which we were already sure of on Manchester's behalf, as evidenced in earlier blahg posts). In other words, we feel right at home. We're ALSO excited to be playing "all ages" shows for the first time (as evidenced in the self-applied title of this tour... that's not really what it's called by the way).

Also, IMPORTANT: We have gotten word that several of the shows on this tour are already sold out, SO... get your tickets in advance, all 'ya DC fans out there. See y'all at the show!

Upcoming Tour / Set times

 

 Dont get too comfortable after Thanksgiving because our tour starts the following day (Nov. 28) in Carborro, NC.  This will be the first of many shows with fellow Georgians Manchester Orchestra. 
VERY IMPORTANT: For these shows, be very aware of the set times!  Many of the shows are all-ages and are quite early.  The bands will be starting at their alloted time, so pay attention and don't say we didn't warn you.  Our set times are on the tour schedule on our myspace page.
    That said, thanks to all who came out on the west coast.  Special thanks to Apollo Sunshine and all the other bands we played with along the way.  It was a great tour. (See previous posts if you do not believe me)

November Tour Out West

Hello friends. I am finally at a computer for a long period of time.. long enough to show some photos and tell briefly about the awesome tour we had out west with Apollo Sunshine.

This was taken from a Killer gig at The Mohawk in Austin.

The next day we went to Fun Fun Fun Fest and saw many great acts including
The Black Angels

After Austin, we had a couple of days off to travel toward Tuscon, Arizona.

There were sunsets that were pretty as hell!!

 

.. Even Marc and Walker thought so.

Like Brantley says, the drive from Tuscon to San Diego is awesome!!

After a great gig in San Diego, we went over to Las Vegas for another gig and some minor gambling.

The Vegas gig was rockin'!! After that, we headed back to Cali to leave our mark in L.A.

We had a great gig in L.A. Unfortunately we came across many fires north of the city and learned that over 800 homes were destroyed from these fires.

After leaving the smoke behind, we work our way to San Fransisco for another stellar gig.

Hey, There's Alcatraz!

We then worked our way up the coast to Portland, where we stayed (and played) at the Jupiter Hotel- Doug Fir Lounge.

We had a killer gig there as well, that is after Walker took his nap.

From there, we went to Seattle and had a great gig at Chop Suey. As well as our tour partners Apollo Sunshine, we also played Portland and Seattle with our friends Feral Children.

From cold Seattle/ Portland, we headed to even colder Park City,Utah. The drive was unbelievable. 

Our show was good there as well.. now we headed down to the last gig of the tour, Denver, CO.

  The gig in Denver was great and the tour was over!!

Overall, we had great gigs on this second time out west and would like to thank everyone who came out and supported us.. as well as all the venues who were very hospitable to us.

Seattle/ Boise

We had a fantastic time as always in Seattle, our home far, far away from home. I posted some pics below. Boise was great but I didn't get any pics. Boise, you can blame that on your heavy-handed bartenders (not that I'm complaining)! Boise reminds me of our hometown of Augusta, GA, in a good way. Thanks to all for such overwhelming support in both cities!

We very much enjoyed our third performance at KEXP for Cheryl Waters' show. I don't know why I made that face. We played "Get Out", "Start Me Laughing", "Wrecking Ball", and "Flesh Colored Canvas".

We ate at Hurricane Cafe like we always do when we go to Seattle. Walker's face says it all.

We had some down-time so me and Hardy went back to KEXP and watched fellow Athenians, Of Montreal, perform. I really enjoyed hearing their songs stripped down. Definitely go download the podcast performance. Oh yeah, download ours too! Ha! KEXP's website has links to sign up for the podcast and get past performances. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

"Hello darlin', nice to see ya, it's been a long time..."

Sorry... We've been listening to nothing but Conway Twitty. Well, that... and E.L.O. (hell yeah we have). Anyway, I guess I've gotten all but lost in this crazy, crazy world of touring and neglected this here blahg. Here's a brief rundown of what's been going on. (The pics below are all from the Los Angeles/San Francisco/Portland section of the tour)...

We saw desert.

We saw fire.

We saw a lot of pretty sunsets. (The pics never do justice. This one was 180 degrees around us).

We bought silly hats at truck stops, but wore them seriously.

Hardy and Walker did a lot of acoustic performances on radio shows.

The Doors opened for us. Their set was only one minute long. I missed it.

Walker's beard got longer.

Vegas, Baby!!

Well, we managed to escape Vegas without loosing all our money. Here's some pics:

I understand Vegas is about being a total lush and doing whatever you want, no matter how unhealthy. But c'mon! Seriously?!

San Diego

We had a great time in San Diego and will DEFINITELY be back. Thanks to Michael Halloran and KBZT for their support. In case you missed it, we played stripped-down, spacey versions of "Yer' Circus" and "Wrecking Ball". There was some interviewing. And we got to chat with Wayne Coyne of the Flaming Lips. All very very cool.

Also, we want to thank the Casbah, and the large crowd that made it out on a Wednesday night. Easily a fantastic first impression! See you very soon, I hope.

Vegas here we come! Big money big money big money...

Tucson -> San Diego

The drive from Tucson to San Diego is one of my all time favorites. The last time we made this drive (when we were out with the Truckers) I drove the whole way just cause it was so beautiful. This time I took pictures to share with all of you.

Ugggghhh... Long day of driving today. Texas is f!@#ing huge!!! We're stopped at a hotel in Las Cruces and they have free Internet. Score! Here's the pics from our day off as promised:

After that, our photos are slack. Hey, it was our day off. There were reports of Big Foot attacks everywhere (pictured above). We continued into the night, catching performances by Minus The Bear, Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Bad Brains, St. Vincent, Kool Keith and Dr. Octagon, etc... etc... etc........

Like a shining beacon of hope, I managed to make it back to our hotel. Something about it reminded me of Egypt so I took this picture. That's what drinking Bull Fighters will do to you I guess (Bull Fighter = Red Bull + Tequila).

So yeah, sorry about the lack of pics. We're just getting back into the swing of things. If it makes you feel any better, here's a picture of Hardy in a fat guy jacket:
